APPLIED COURSES
DANC 341: Ballet IV

Ballet 4, taught by Sandra Kaufmann and Sarita Smith-Childs has been a critical foundation to my dance education thus far. I have appreciated the opportunity to distance myself from aesthetic biases and focus internally on anatomical alignment and grow closer to my cohort through ensemble work in preparation for dance informances. In the past 4 semesters, I have learned how to support distal movement from my core and I continue to work to maximize artistry within my given anatomical frame. I have also cherished the chance to work with a variety of artists, topics, and genres throughout the Friday seminar series
DANC 224: Majors Modern II

Modern 2, taught by Deborah Goodman, provided me with a Humphrey foundation that has facilitated growth in all movement classes. Humphrey aided my understanding of the breath-to-movement connection and forced me to work with, not against, gravity in movement. The concepts I learned in Modern 2 were essential for learning Missa Brevis choreography as well as preparing me for Graham and the post-modern movement in Modern 3.
DANC 324: Majors Modern III

Fall 2023 Modern III Informance
Modern 3 has provided a plethora of new knowledge through my 2 semesters of Graham technique taught by Deborah Goodman, and Post-modern movement taught by Mei Kuang Chen and Sarah Cullen Fuller. Both genres have encouraged the discovery of new pathways of movement by focusing on using all the space above, below, behind, and around, not just dancing in a frontal-focused manor. Sarah Cullen Fuller's class especially has pushed my athleticism and endurance and helped me find confidence in my own strength.
DANC 314: Pointe II

Fall 2023 Pointe II Informance
Prior to my time at Loyola, I performed pointe choreography with minimal technique classes on pointe to support choreographic movement. I have greatly enjoyed diving into pointe technique more deeply under the guidance of Sarah Cullen Fuller. In class we have focused on building strength and technical proficiency at the barre, learning variations and applying technical concepts and historical context, and exploring contemporary pointe work with in-class combinations and informance choreography.
DANC 343: Ballet V

Fall 2023 Ballet V Informance
Ballet V has made me fall in love with ballet even more! Working with Sarah and Raùl allows me to draw cross-curricular connections from my modern and pointe classes to supplement ballet technique. I enjoy the fast-paced classes and the emphasis on artistry. Ballet V has been crucial to developing my fluency in petite allegro and building stamina.
